Following a relentless uptrend over the week, Asian styrene monomer lost momentum Friday as sentiment took a beating from a weaker energy complex, and a fall in Asian stock markets. With February NYMEX crude futures shedding $1.92/barrel to $88.45/b at 0830 GMT, SM FOB Korea retreated by $10/mt to close at $1,385.50/mt, while the CFR China benchmark declined $10.25/mt to settle at $1,393.25/mt. While the SM benchmarks declined on the day, a week-to-week comparison showed that the FOB Korea benchmark was up 3.6%, or $45/mt, while the CFR China benchmark gained 2.8%, or $37.75/mt.
