FOB KOREA/JAPAN: The FOB Korea/Japan propylene price climbed $45/mt week on week to be assessed at $1,526/mt Friday as some buying appetite emerged after a more than $100/mt collapse in the previous week. Some buying interest was reported at $1,500-1,510/mt FOB Korea this week, while selling interest was at the mid-$1,500s/mt level. A 1,500 mt spot cargo was reported to have been traded at $1,525/mt FOB Korea for September loading mid-week. The market was rather driven by tight demand-and-supply conditions earlier this week, rather than crude oil movements. Supplies from South Korea were reported to be tight and traders were particularly active to buy spot cargoes for September. But such buying appetite dissolved Friday, with no firm bids or offers registered, as Western crude oil futures dived again amid renewed global economic concerns. Overnight Thursday, NYMEX September crude oil futures dived $5.20/barrel, settling at $82.38/b in a commodity-wide selloff sparked by concerns over the global economy.
