Asian monoethylene glycol prices was assessed at $1,247/mt Friday, up $17/mt or 1.4% week on week, supported by uncertainty over Taiwan’s Nan Ya Plastics MEG plant in Mailiao. On a weekly average basis, prices jumped $58/mt or 4.8% to $1,278/mt from the previous week. Early week, prices escalated on news of a weekend fire at Formosa’s Mailiao refinery in Taiwan — the second in a week for the company. The daily price assessment jumped $60/mt to $1,290/mt Monday, a 4.9% increase from last Friday.
