The spot export price rose slightly as traders bought LDPE from Westlake at 72 cents/lb ($1,587/mt) FAS Houston. Traders said the price worked to Latin America but not to other destinations and only for small quantities. "We can make it work with a small margin," a trader said. The sentiment was echoed by others who said that if one had to buy this week, 72 cents/lb would be the number. Sentiment had darkened from a week ago, despite the higher price as demand remained slow, particularly in Asia. "Buyers see the weak market in China and they think that means prices in South America will also fall," a source said. Asian producers had yet to offer at competitive prices to South America but that did not dampen expectations that sellers globally would seek out one of the higher priced LDPE import regions in the world and eventually put pressure on Braskem to lower prices.
