ABS prices in the US continued to face downward pressure this week as demand remained soft and feedstock prices moved lower. Recent volatility in the energy and financial markets, coupled with an uncertain economic outlook, also pushed buyers to the sidelines, sources said. Subsequently, the assessment for ABS delivered rail car was down a penny week on week to 132 cents/lb. Spot activity was limited this week, with no confirmed trades reported. The feedstock acrylontrile export price was assessed $80 lower Tuesday in a range of $2,145-$2,170/mt FOB USG on low demand, although the delivered price was still seen at 106 cents/lb. In butadiene, contract price nominations were heard at a rollover for one producer at 175 cents/lb for September, while another producer lowered its September nomination 6 cents from the August CP to 180 cents/lb.
