The European polyvinyl chloride spot market was reported quiet this week with sources saying that the summer lull and financial market uncertainty had kept most actors on the sidelines. Spot price was assessed down to Eur797.50/mt ($1,148/mt) FD NWE from $802.5/mt FD NWE. A source said he had concluded business for end of August/early September delivery at Eur800/mt FD Germany, while a producer said this figure was "too low" as European spot was closer to the mid- 800s; a third source said that "Today, deals in the pipeline are around Eur830/mt FD Germany." Demand for prompt volume remained thin, with sources saying there were more inquiries being made however. "Customers are returning to the market following the summer holidays," said a trader on Wednesday, adding that he was receiving inquiries from Germany, and even Italy.
