Butadiene prices were unchanged week on week Friday at $3,930/mt FOB Korea and $4,050/mt CFR Taiwan and CFR China as market participants waited for updates on the impact of a weekend fire at Taiwan’s Formosa Petrochemical. The company was ordered to keep its No. 1 naphtha-fed steam cracker shut indefinitely after the fire at a propylene production unit attached to reside fluid catalytic crackers. The No. 1 cracker will be shut until November at least. But Formosa still plans to go ahead with a planned turnaround at its No. 3 naphtha-fed steam cracker at the complex from mid-August. While several participants said there was a lack of spot activity from Taiwan this week, about 4,500 mt of butadiene was sold Friday at $3,930/mt CFR Taiwan for late- August/mid-September. But the cargo was of Iranian origin and could not be considered for Platts assessment.
