PPS: Asian general purpose polystyrene was assessed up $20/mt week on week to $1,520/mt CFR China, bringing the spread to feedstock styrene monomer back above an estimated breakeven level of $100/mt above the SM price. The spread was at $130/mt Wednesday, based on a SM price at $1,390/mt CFR China. Sellers maintained that they could not lower their offers at the moment as their inventory was produced at a high cost level. Offers were mostly heard around $1,600/mt CFR China, with the lowest selling indication at $1,580/mt CFR China. But buyers were all the more reluctant to accept their offer level because SM prices fell by $46/mt week on week.
