Paraxylene rose $6 Friday to settle at $1,116/mt FOB Korea and $1,133/mt CFR Taiwan/China amid news of another plant outage. There were no participants during the Market on Close assessment process, but off-screen a bid for an H1 March-arrival parcel was heard at $1,120/mt CFR, while discussion for February parcels was around $1,130-$1,150/mt CFR. With sellers still outnumbering buyers, the assessment was pegged closer to buyers’ ideas. For the week, PX fell $25.50 with no deals concluded on the MOC. Meanwhile, downstream purified terephthalic acid continued to gain strength, closing around $5 higher on the week to settle at $957/mt CFR China.
