The August European contract price for monoethylene glycol remained unsettled Friday, with one producer saying he had no intention to follow the initial August settlement because he wanted a higher number. Consumers also reported they did not settle this week. This meant that either a second settlement at a higher value for August; or a double settlement rolling the conclusion of the August contract price together with the contract settlement for September would be possible this month. On the spot market, sources said that supply was tightening and prices were moving up. Barge prices were heard this week as low as Eur960-970/mt CIF NWE from buyers and as high as Eur990/mt CIF NWE from sellers, but both said there was not much MEG being imported from the US and that limited availability was supporting high prices. However, downstream demand from PET producers and antifreeze blenders was slowing.
