Announced price increases for the domestic market were heard to have passed for August, according to a source. The increases still upheld a 12-cents gap between both general- purpose polystyrene and high-impact polystyrene as feedstock butadiene contracts were settled up as well. Butadiene contracts settled in a split, with three producers settling at 175 cents/lb and another producer settling at 186 cents/lb for August. “Things are holding in there for now,” said the source regarding increases for both G-P and HIPS, adding, “demand is still decent.” The higher polystyrene prices were said to reflect a roughly 4-5 cents increase in the feedstock styrene contract price.
