NWE spot styrene prices fell $41.25/mt over the week as the market tracked falls in upstream benzene and a slide in the energy complex, sources said. By Friday, the market was seen at $1,430-1,450/mt 1kt FOB ARA for September, with some indications that the contango structure had flattened. This was based on reports of trade at $1,420/mt for both August and September early Friday. The narrowed contango gave support to many sources, who were confident of a strengthening market going into September when major turnarounds were set to begin. 'The fundamentals should be getting tighter as turnaround season approaches; the market will be reduced by around 14%," one trader noted.
