The summer lull continued to see reduced activity in the European PVC spot market, with sources reporting only small volumes had been sold this week. The best offer range reported was at the Eur800-830 level, with no bid ideas confirmed by buyers. Spot price was assessed down Eur25/mt to Eur802.5/mt FD NWE. “We have queries from time to time, but nothing big,” a trader said on Wednesday, adding, “Buyers seem confused by the situation with the [financial] markets.” In terms of supply/demand, sources said that while demand was returning, supply was still ample. “I don’t see product shortage,” a source said, adding that, “I don’t see any pressure on the prices or anything...” The view that the market was slightly long was shared by a source on the sell side, who said that, overall in Europe, the holidays had seen reduced demand, while “there is no problem sourcing material at the moment.” A trader said that at the moment he was not witnessing any pre-buying and, while “buyer interest is down because of little market visibility at the moment, there is also a limited number of offers out there.” On contract news, August contract price negotiations between producers and converters were reported to be moving slowly.
