EDC: Rising US ethylene values were putting pressure on EDC prices and the entire vinyls chain, sources said this week. Participants cited a roughly 6 cents/lb increase in spot ethylene since the beginning of the year as a driving factor in higher EDC costs. Prices were talked slightly higher this week, near $460-470/mt FOB USG. However all discussions were notional as no firm bids or offers were seen, and no confirmed trades reported. That pressure could be alleviated soon as falling ethane prices in recent days were set to pull ethylene lower. In vinyls production, Georgia Gulf was in the midst of a VCM turnaround at Plaquemine, Louisiana, sources said.
