European spot values reversed previous gains, posting a decline Wednesday as competitive imports reappeared. Spot values fell to Eur1,138-1,142/mt ($1,453/mt) FD NWE. With renewed selling interest for ex-US, ex-Brazil and ex-Middle East product surfacing this week, converters appeared reluctant now to respond to existing offers. Converters reported receiving offers at Eur1,100-1,130/mt FD NWE, while traders said that their best offers to converters were at Eur1,150/mt FD NWE. “The market is still sluggish, it is at cross roads now as there is not too much demand and not too much supply,” a trader said. “Offers from European producers are not overwhelming, there is no abundance of product,” he said, adding that he would still try and offer his ex-US 500mt lot at Eur1,180/mt FD NWE. Meanwhile, in the contractual market, producers appeared upbeat about the prospect of a Eur10/mt increase in C4 grades and Eur10- 40/mt in C6 grades, citing good order books, a higher ethylene contract price and comfortable stock positions.
