Prices on a CFR Far East/Southeast Asia basis rose $24/mt on week, driven by tight supplies as well as rising demand for agricultural film applications in northern China. In South Korea, Hanwha Chemical and SK Energy plan to shut their respective LLDPE plants in October for routine maintenance, tightening LLDPE supplies from South Korea. China’s demand for October arrival business typically slows down due to the one-week National Day holiday early October. But some market sources said demand would remain firm in China. “The weather is getting cold in North China and agricultural film demand is picking up,” said a Saudi Arabian producer. A Middle Eastern producer fixed its September- arrival cargoes at $1,210-1,220/mt CFR China a few weeks ago and plans to keep those selling prices for October arrival. From Taiwan, offer levels were reported at $1,220- 1,230/mt FOB Taiwan.
