The US ABS price continued to slip this week, as producers entered a traditional slower season. Production rates were near 85%, a source said, down from above 90% earlier this summer. And with butadiene spot prices falling and supplies lengthening, producers were able drop prices slightly. Spot prices for butadiene were heard near 90 cents/lb this week for September, about 20 cents below the high price for the summer. October and November material was priced even lower as the market remained steeply backwardated. And while spot styrene prices remained above 50 cents/lb, falling spot benzene and ethylene prices created a backwardated market structure for styrene as well.
