Asian prices in the Far East and South East Asia continued to remain firm on the back of an expected rise in demand and a heavy slate of turnarounds from September onwards. South Asian ACN prices, however, lost traction in line with European spot prices slumping to $1,840-1,850/mt CIF Med since early August. In Asia Tuesday, a selling idea for a 1,500 mt H1 September-delivery cargo was heard at $2,100/mt CFR Far East Asia, although buying indications were heard “way below near $2,050/mt” after considering deepsea sea cargoes offered in the European markets since early August at $1,850/mt. Even after factoring in spot freight of $100- 110/mt for early August-loading/September-delivery cargoes, the break even level before any profit margins would be pegged at $1,950-1,960/mt.
