LDPE import prices in Latin America moved higher this week and sources talked of pricing into Brazil in the mid- $1,700’s/mt on a CFR basis. Sources pointed to higher US pricing and limited material coming out of Asia as justification for the higher numbers. Prices to the Andean region were steady as well as Braskem sought to implement an H1 August price hike of $80-100/mt. The company was heard to be mulling an increase for the second half of the month, though no announcements were heard at time of publication. Offers this week were talked near $ 1,720- 1,730/mt CFR Peru, but sources were mixed on buying interest. Despite increasing prices throughout Latin America, prices in the region faced downward pressure going forward as Asian prices slipped in the face of lower crude.
