The European spot ethylene market remained thin this week, with buying interest continuing to outpace the available spot supply, sources said Friday. Spot values commanded a premium over contract prices, indicating the strength of the market. Spot values were at Eur960/mt ($1,225/mt) FD NWE, Friday. Despite high utilization rates at European steam crackers, spot selling interest was limited as core contractual off-take did not subside much in August from most ethylene derivatives. “We are all on the borderline now; inventories are on a low side, we can meet the contractual [projected] demand but nothing more,” an integrated market participant said.
