Venezuela hits Harvest with back tax bill

Caracas-Harvest Natural Resources said July 25 it was reviewing a claim for outstanding taxes of 85-mil by Venezuela's Seniat tax authority but indicated it may challenge the bill.The Seniat informed Harvest's Venezuelan subsidiary,Harvest Vinccler,July 22 that it owes 183-bil bolivars in income taxes for the period from 2001 to 2004."The company is in the process of reviewing the assessment,but believes that Harvest Vinccler has met its tax obligations in all material respects," Harvest said in a statement."Harvest Vinccler and Harvest Natural Resources intend to take all measures necessary to protect their rights,and will vigorously challenge all elements of the assessment that are not supported by Venezuelan law."
