US EPA to allow big Arizona market to omit oxygenate

The US Environmental Protection Agency will allow the Phoenix,Arizona,area to use clean-burning gasoline without an oxygenate beginning this summer under changes approved to Arizona's Cleaner Burning Gasoline (CBG) program,an official in EPA's San Francisco office said Jan 27.The EPA approval allows the Phoenix area to use California fuel,with 10% etha-nol,in the winter and removes the 2% oxygenate mandate from summer fuel,the official said."There will be no requirement to use an oxygenate," she noted."The area can use MTBE,ethanol or nothing at all."
