BG says El Paso deal to boost E&P performance

UK's BG Group Feb 17 reported a 71% rise in profits for the fourth quarter,and said its progress toward its medium-term strategic goals had been helped by the acquisition a day earlier of upstream assets in Canada from El Paso.BG said its reported earnings for the quarter rose to GBP215-mil (US406-mil),up 71% from GBP126-miI in the same period of 2002.Excluding exceptional items,earnings rose 41% to GBP183-mil.
