Australian parliament passes Sunrise pact

The Australian parliament Mar 29 passed legislation ratifying the international unitization agreement for the huge Sunrise gas field,which lies in the Timor Sea between Australia and East Timor.The bill was passed by the Senate,the upper house of the Australian parliament,after lengthy debate and despite opposition from minor parties,who accused the government of robbing the impoverished new nation of East Timor of the lion's share of the estimated AUS10-bil (US7.4-bil) in revenue expected to flow from the development of Sunrise.
