GlobalSantaFe gets out of land drilling business

US-based contract driller GlobalSantaFe said Apr 2 it has agreed to sell its 31 international land rigs to Canadian service company Precision Drilling for US316.5-mil in an all-cash transaction.The land rigs total roughly a third of the US company's total 90-rig fleet.Also included in the transaction is a fleet of GlobalSantaFe rig transport vehicles that support land drilling in Kuwait and the Kuwait-Saudi Arabia partitioned Neutral Zone.
