Team from Ireland's Petrel in Baghdad to bid on restarting Iraqi fields

Irish explorer Petrel Resources has sent a team to Iraq to place a bid to restart the Himrin oil field in central Iraq and the Khurmala field in northern Iraq,company chairman John Teeling said Jan 26."We are refining the terms of our bid," he said.Late in 2003,the oil ministry's then chief executive Thamer Ghadban said Iraq planned to begin the development in 2004 of four oil fields with a total capacity of 340.000 b/d.He said then the Iraqi oil ministry had decided to proceed "on our own" with the development of the Khurmala and Himrin fields,in addition to the Suba and Luhais fields in the south.Ghadban was appointed in November to fill one of four new advisory positions at the oil ministry (ON 11/12/03).
