Louisiana company wants to use US Gulf platforms to produce wind power

Washington-Up to 500 MW of wind power off southern Louisiana in state and federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico could be developed using decommissioned oil and gas platforms,according to a plan by a New Iberia,Louisiana,company.Wind Energy Systems Technology filed its plans with the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources and hopes to obtain needed permits in time for the first 50 MW portion of the project to be in service in 2005,said engineer Herman Schellstede,president of Wind Energy Systems.
