Alberta gas shut-in plan draws strong reaction

Natural gas producers in north-eastern Alberta are enraged by an Energy and Utilities Board proposal to shut in 1 Tcf of reserves to protect reservoir pressures over 5.5-mil acres of oil sands. In response to a board ruling that gas production "proesents an uaccptable risk to future thermal bitumen recovery," Paramount Energy Trust said June 4 the action is "dictatorial, oppressive and ith scant regard to the effort of entities which have spent billions of dollars" to explore and develop gas on government-owned land.
