McCain, Lieberman push emissions bill

The US cannot wait for the results of further studies before taking action to combat global warming, Sen. John McCain (Republican-Arizona), chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, said Jan 8. McCain, who is sponsoring legislation requiring US business and industry to reduce emissions to 1990 levels by 2016, told a press briefing additional study is needed, but he was critical of Bush administration proposals "that don't do much except study the issue."
