Halliburton plays down Iraq impact on 1Q:Says contract contributed less than 1% of income

Giant global service firm Halliburton, controversially awarded big US government contracts before the war with Iraq to extinguish oil well fires and repair damaged wells, downplayed the contracts' contribution to its ballance sheet in an Apr 29 earnings conference call to investors. During the call, Halliburton's first since the contracts were awarded in March without competitive bidding, new CFO Chris Gaut said Iraq-related work accounted for less than 1% of total company first-quarter net income.
