US SPR tops 600-mil bbl

The US Strategic Petroleum Reserve now holds more than 600-mil bbl, the Department of Energy said May 22. That mark was passed May 22. Prior to the Bush Administration's 2001 decision to fill the SPR to its maximum 700-mil bbl capacity, its highest fill had been 592-mil bbl, in 1994. It passed the 500-mil-bbl mark in 1986.
