US BLM sets new policies for western development

The US Bureau of Land Management Aug 7 issued new policies designed to ease permitting restraints in seven "focus areas" in the western US with a high potential for oil and gas development. The more fulfills a promise made in an Interior Department report issued earlier this year under the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA) in which it said it would estimate oil and gas reserves beneath energy-prone western basins and identify impediments to develping those resources.
