Sabine cargo exits Panama Canal, the first LNG vessel to traverse expanded canal

Royal Dutch Shell’s Maran Gas Apollonia became the first LNG vessel to successfully traverse the newly expanded Panama Canal on July 26. The cargo appeared as of midweek to be bound for the Pacific Basin and could be an indication that Shell is optimizing its US LNG supply. The 3.4-Bcf vessel loaded its cargo on July 21 at Sabine Pass, Shell’s 12th loading at the facility. To date, Shell has exported 12 cargoes from Sabine Pass, totaling 36.4 Bcf of gas. Of those cargoes, nine have been delivered, with seven finding their way to South American markets in Chile and Argentina.
