Low costs, stable gas market help boost fertilizer company earnings

Fertilizer makers continued to benefit from cheap low-cost natural gas in the fourth quarter, with several citing lower feedstock costs while reporting record earnings. CF Industries Holdings said its quarterly gas cost came in at $3.61/ MMBtu, 11% lower than a year ago, including derivatives hedging. The company recorded a $13.1 million mark-to-market gain on its natural gas and foreign currency derivatives for the quarter.
