Bakken gas expected to fuel resurgence in North Dakota's industrial demand

A pipeline that will carry gas from the oil-producing Bakken Shale of western North Dakota is expected to fuel a resurgence of manufacturing activity, particularly for the fertilizer industry, on the eastern side of the state. WBI Energy, a unit of MDU Resources, last month announced plans to build a 400-mile gas pipeline to markets in eastern North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The project would move about 400,000 Mcf/d, with the possibility of expansion to 500,000 Mcf/d, from the Bakken, where much gas produced in association with shale oil is flared due to a lack of takeaway capacity.
