LnG advocates cheer proposal to change Canada’s tax rules

Advocates of Canada’s nascent liquefied natural gas industry on Friday cheered a proposal by the Canadian federal govern- ment to amend its taxing structure to make construction of LNG facilities more economical. Speaking in the western province of British Columbia Thursday, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the pro- posed policy that would establish a capital-cost allowance rate of 30% for gas liquefaction equipment and 10% for buildings at a liquefaction facility. If approved by Parliament, the tax relief would be made retroactive for capital assets incurred after February 19, 2015, and before 2025.
