Fourth-quarter earnings among major oil corporations and integrated oil companies, typically some of the first to report quarterly results, were mixed, although the upstream divisions of nearly all benefitted from stronger oil prices year-over-year, offsetting the drag on earnings from fading gas prices, downstream earnings weakness and, in some cases, lower production.
