Gas pipeline company credit should remain stable - for now: Moody's

The credit quality of US gas transmission companies is likely to remain stable for the next 12 to 18 months, but beyond that lies the possibility of credit-crunching events, credit rating agency Moody's Investors Service said on Tuesday.A spate of new construction coupled with little motion by gas buyers away from their traditional pipeline providers could set the stage for pipe-on-pipe competition as Rockies Express and newer lines carrying Rockies and shale gas compete with Columbia, Texas Eastern and other incumbent interstate pipelines that move gas from the Gulf Coast to premium Northeast US markets, Moody's Senior Credit Officer Mihoko Manabe said.
