Rockies, Marcellus supply upends traditional Appalachian price spreads

While Dominion Transmission's South Point has traditionally held an average 12-cent premium to Columbia Gas Transmission Appalachia, that price spread could narrow dramatically over the next few years as rising amounts of Rocky Mountain and Marcellus Shale gas supply flows increasingly into the Northeast, Platts price data and sources indicate. Anticipation of the shoulder season to come has recently eroded the premium that Dominion has typically maintained over Columbia, with prices at the former shifting to a discount through the end of October, Platts forward assessments and Platts M2M-Gas models indicate.
