摘要

Concerns of the Intergovernmental Group on Tea regarding persistent problems of oversupply in the world tea market and the consequent downward pressure on prices, have led to efforts aimed at enhancing demand and at curtailing supplies to achieve market balance. Quality improvement is perceived as one approach that can offer positive contributions to meeting both of these objectives, particularly the latter as illustrated in document CCP:TE 06/5 which was presented at the last session of the Group. By imposing a minimum quality standard, the analysis indicated a positive impact on prices as quantities are curtailed, by default.
