Climate change and the importance of establishing shade trees in tea plantations in Wayanad

In Wayanad, tea occupies an area of about 5500 ha, which contributes to about 15 per cent of tea plantations in Kerala. About 19 per cent of tea produced in Kerala is contributed by Wayanad. However, tea production and productivity in Wayanad has beenshowing a downward trend during the past few years (Table 1).
