The field experiment was conducted on a perennial ryegrass fairway (Philadelphia Country Club, Gladwyne, PA) maintained at a cutting height of 0.450-in. with a reel mower and clippings not removed. Soil pH was 6.0 with 9.1% organic matter at this native soil site. All injection treatments were applied from a DryJect (DryJect Inc., Hatboro, PA) aerification machine that was modified to deliver 4 gal water per 1,000 sq ft at high pressure of 3,000 psi to a depth of 3 to 4-in. into the soil rootzone below the turf canopy. All conventional surface “spray” treatments were applied with a CO2-powered backpack sprayer pressured calibrated to deliver 4 gal water-carrier per 1,000 sq ft at 40 psi from two XR TeeJet 8006E nozzles spaced 18-in. apart. Individual plots measured 5 ft X 10 ft, and treatments were arranged as a randomized complete block designwith four replications. Product treatments, application rates, and application calendar dates are listed in the table. A combination of both type I and II fairy ring symptoms were present at this test site, therefore total symptoms in each plotwere estimated on a 0 to 100% scale, where 0 = no disease and 100 = entire plot area affected. All data were subjected to analysis of variance with treatment means compared by Fisher’s protected least significance difference test at P <= 0.05.
