Twenty-three seed treatments (see table) were evaluated in a conventional commercial dry pea field (silt loam soil) in Potlatch, ID for their potential to manage seed and root rot pathogens of dry peas. Non-treated seed was used as a control. Plots were planted on 20 May using a six-row belt planter. Treatments were replicated four times in plots arranged in a randomized complete block design. Each plot was 5.8 meters long with row spacing of 28 cm, seed spacing of 5 cm, and seeding depth of 5 cm. Standard commercial dry pea production practices were followed under dryland conditions. Emergence was assessed on 15 Jun and plant height and root disease severity were taken on 7 Jul. Dry pea yield was assessed on 11 Aug. Whole plants were removed from the 1.5 m mid-section of the four center rows of each plot and plants were passed through a customized thrasher to remove peas from the pods. Data were analyzed using PROC MIXED or PROC RANK procedure in SAS since the data did not meet the conditions ofboth normal distribution and equal variance. If data met the assumption of normal distribution but did not meet the condition of equal variance, PROC MIXED was used. If data did not meet either conditions of normal distribution or equal variance, a non-parametric PROC RANK transformation was used and PROC GLM was applied to the rankings. Significant differences (P <= 0.05) between treatments were determined by comparisons of the least square means among the treatments. All transformed rank values wereback- transformed for presentation in the tables.
