Sugar beet cyst nematode management with Vydate C-LV and Temik 15G, 2008.

A field experiment was conducted at the Parma Research and Extension Center, Parma, Idaho to evaluate the efficacy of different timing in applications of Vydate C-LV and Temik 15G on sugar beet cyst nematode management in sugar beet. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with five treatments each with five replications. A field with an indigenous population of sugar beet cyst nematode was selected. Soil samples were taken before treatment and nematodes were extracted using Cobb’s decanting and sieving technique followed by centrifugal floatation method. Temik was applied in a 4 -5 inch band width in furrow at planting. Vydate was applied in a three inch band over each row atplanting using the CO2 powered plot sprayer with spray nozzles mounted behind the planting shoe in front of the packing wheel. Three more foliar applications of Vydate were made at 14 day intervals with a hand held CO2 plot sprayer. Sugar beet seeds wereplanted on 24 Apr in rows 22 inches apart. Germination count was recorded on May 27. Weeding and other normal cultural practices were followed. On 5 Jun, plant vigor was recorded in the scale of 1-5. On 10 Oct, beets were hand-harvested from 20 ft ofthe middle two rows of each plot, weighed and yield data recorded.
