The trial was planted on 12 Apr at the Mississippi State University R.R Foil Plant Research Center. The field had been in continuous conventional tillage cotton production with a history of seedling disease. Soil temperature at a 10 cmdepth at planting was 24.4oC, and soil moisture was adequate. Seed treatments were applied by the manufacturer. The infurrow granular fungicide and the inoculum were dispensed with Kincaid Belt-Seed cones. Plots consisted of four 12.19 mlongrows with 96.52 cm spacing between rows, arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Adjacent replicate blocks were separated by a 3.66 m alley. Each row was planted with 120 seeds. Two of the four rows were infested, at the time of planting, with a mix of an aggressive Rhizoctonia solani isolate grown in winter rye, and Pythium ultimum grown on pearl millet. Plots were maintained with standard cotton production practices as recommended by Mississippi State University Extension Service. Stand counts (numbers of live seedlings/plot), were taken 35 d after planting(DAP). Plots were harvested on 28 Sep. Data were statistically analyzed using the General Linear Models procedure of SAS (SAS Institute, Cary, NC), and means compared using Fisher’s protected least significance difference (LSD) test.
