The seed treatment Aeris was evaluated for management of the root-knot nematode on corn at the Brewton Experimental Field located near Brewton, AL. The field had a long history of root-knot nematode infestation, and the soil type was classified as a Benndale Fine Sandy Loam. Plots consisted of 4 rows, 7.6 m long with 0.9 m row spacing, and were planted in a randomized complete block design with five replications. Blocks were separated by a 6.1 m wide alley. Counter 15 G (9.4 kg/ha) was applied at planting on 9 Apr in the seed furrow with chemical granular applicators attached to the planter. Aeries was applied as a seed treatment by the manufacturer. All plots were maintained throughout the season with standard herbicide, insecticide, and fertilityproduction practices as recommended by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. Population densities of the reniform nematode were determined at monthly intervals. Ten soil cores, 2.54 cm in diameter and 15 cm deep, were collected from the two rows of each plot in a systematic sampling pattern. Nematodes were extracted using the gravity sieving and sucrose centrifugation technique. Five root systems were dug from each plot and nematode eggs were removed using sodium chloride dilutions. The entire plots were harvested with a Kincaid-8 XP Multi-Crop Research Plot Combine on 11 Sep. Data were statistically analyzed by the general linear models (GLM) procedure, and means compared using Fisher’s protected least significant difference test.
