Evaluation of Neo-Tec~R for controlling nematodes in golf greens 2006

A golf green in South Hadley, Massachusetts was chosen to evaluate NeoTec. The green consisted of a mixture of annual bluegrass and creeping bentgrass. Top-dressing over the years resulted in approximately 4 in. of sandy soil. Mechanicalanalysis of the top 4 in. showed it to be 88.6% sand, 9.1% silt, and 2.3% clay. USDA criteria classify this soil as a sand. Neo- Tec consists of 2.6% sesame oil, 2.6% lecithin and 94.8% granulated paper. The treatment and control were replicated sixtimes (plots were 6 ft x 6 ft) and completely randomized. Neo-Tec was applied at the rate of 9.2 lb/1,000 sq ft (twice the labeled rate) 29 Sept 2005; 16 May and 31 Aug, 2006 following aerification. After application, Neo-Tec was lightly brushed to increase the amount of material moving into the soil. Neo-Tec was also applied on 13 Jun and 26 Jul 2006 on top of the soil without brushing. After each application, irrigation was applied to settle the material into the turf. Soil was sampled by removing 10soil cores per plot and bulking together. Nematode were recovered by wet sieving/sugar flotation and identifiedto genus. Criconemella (ring) and Tylenchorhynchus (stunt) were assessed. The data were subjected to analysis of variance and a test of LSD.
