During surveys conducted in Puerto Rico, in 2008 and 2009, fruit rot and lesions on leaves and inflorescences of rambutans were observed. A total of 276 diseased samples were collected. The pathogen was identified as Lasmenia sp. based on genetic (ITS), morphological and pathogenicity tests. This is thought to be the first report of Lasmenia sp. causing rachis necrosis and flower abortion worldwide and the first report of fruit rot and necrotic spots on leaves of rambutan in Puerto Rico.Digital Object Identifier http://dx.doi.org/10.1094/PDIS-05-11-0366
