Evaluation of fungicides and soil surfactants for fairy ring control in perennial ryegrass, 2006

The field experiment was conducted on a perennial ryegrass fairway (Philadelphia Country Club, Gladwyne, PA) maintained at a 0.450-in. mowing height with a reel mower and clippings not removed. Soil pH was 6.7 with 4.1% organic matter at this native soil site. All treatments were applied with a CO2-powered backpack sprayer pressured to 40 psi and calibrated to deliver 4 gal water-carrier per 1,000 sq ft from one XR TeeJet 8006E nozzle. Individual plots measured 3 ft X 5 ft, and treatments were arranged as a randomized complete block design with three replications. Product treatments, application rates, and application calendar dates are listed in the table. Fairy ring was evaluated as a combination of both type I and II symptoms present in the plots, therefore total symptoms were estimated on a percent plot area basis on a 0 to 100% scale, where 0 = no disease and 100 = entire plot area affected. All data were subjected to analysis of variance withtreatment means compared by Fisher’s protected least significance difference test at P <=0.05.
