摘要

I appreciate the chance to reply to the commentary1 on my article in Physical Therapy Reviews by Jill D. Black, PT, DPT, EdD and Robin L. Dole, PT, DPT, EdD, PCS. The conceptual work that I laid out in that article was well received by Black and Dole and I appreciate their practice-focused review. In this brief reply, I want to clarify what the promise of phenomenologically-informed inquiry can offer. It is important to be clear about what a phenomenologically-informed methodology can offer researchers and scholars in the fields of rehabilitation and disability. It offers a way of seeing that systematically attempts to expose, avoid, and go beyond preconceived categories of understanding as well as challenge theoretical taken-for-granted assumptions regarding our fields of study.
